Scriptwriting ideas BLOG term 3

IDEAS BLOG

My Initial script idea approach was simply the basic concept of Obsession and seeing where that can lead me rather than heading straight to narrative and character

A want to explore the idea in a naturalistic and relatable way rather than an over the top farcical manner but i think it would be interesting to explore the spectrum of the feelings associated with that word.

The "Never meet your heroes" saying

(Obsession Research piece)

Music

Stan - Eminem (lyric video)

Collosus (Explicit) - Tyler The Creator

One way or another - Blondie

Love You Till Tuesday - David Bowie

Purposes of Media lesson +

Richard Dyers utopian theory

Escapism
He saw media/entertainment as a form of escapism for its audiences which is why it is popular

"Audience consumes media to escape reality"

Richard Dyers questions

Who's our audience?
What do they want?

Dyer believes that audiences consume media to draw key pleasures from that experience

Nowadays we can tailor what we consume to what we want
Age
Music taste
Sports

Communication linked with psychology

We were asked what we liked in media and our thoughts on why people consume it

Will Patel : "I just like things that provoke emotion weather they are happy or sad"

Hector: "urban reality youth sad but you don't have to endure the reality of it"

Eve: "people like seeing others in a less fortunate situation"

Lily: you can play out an unrealistic fantasy. Wanna be voeyers

Clay: "people like expecting a revelation or thrill, detective stories, cliffhangers etc"

Sidonie: "people like relatable, realistic drama"

Reece: niesh demographic"

Dyer
People like media that expresses ideals about how human life could be organised and lived.

Entertainment offers the image of something better to set against the realities of day to day existence.

Audiences choose to consume media because it includes...

Damien Thorn - The Antichrist

Rap Genius

Lucy is a romanticised form of Lucifer (a.k.a Satan).
Lucy is a common slang for another supposed evil in the world LSD. Kendrick is very much against drugs, so it is quite possible that this is another evil he is seeing in the world. The interesting thing about this is the history of the slang of Lucy. Lucy in theSky with Diamonds” was in origin a song by John Lennon that was interpreted to be about LSD, while in reality it was about his son’s drawing of his friend Lucy. The evil prevails in symbolism, by making positive songs into evil references.
Kendrick’s love for Lucy is a metaphor for the acceptance of evil into our lives. Kendrick falling for bling and material things over the importance of his home is something that he sees as evil and is upset with himself about
